Ferry Impressive! Gold Coasters Will Boat to Work

Ferry tingly! Feel the wind in your hair and the salt in your face.

Possible ferry routes in the Gold Coast waterways

Ferry nice! A Gold Coast City ferry could be zooming you to work very soon. Feel the breeze in your hair, people! Because this is the lifestyle we are paying for and expect.

The plan moved a step closer recently with the announcement of 14 stops being investigated for a trial. As a result, those of us stuck in cars feel a little tingly. Consequently, we all want to get this thing on the road.

Ferry Call-Out

Ferry operators from across Australia are expected to respond to the City’s expression of interest for a trial service on the Gold Coast. The five-stop ferry route includes: Home of the Arts (HOTA); Appel Park in Surfers Paradise; Marina Mirage at Main Beach; Southport Pier at Broadwater Parklands; and Sea World on The Spit.

City cat could be the ferry transport coming to the Gold Coast soon

The Goldie could soon have some of these ferry bad boys!

Mayor Tom Tate said a trial would provide State Government agencies and the City with vital data about future ferry services. “These 14 stops may not all make it to the trial but it’s really exciting to think that you may be able to get on a ferry at Tipplers to go to an event at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. There’s nothing more Gold Coast than that.

The Gold Coast City ferry could be as popular as the Brisbane River City Cats have been. And, similarly to a proposed Goldie service, a lot of Brisbane people get their hair really messed up on the way to work every day. But what a nice way to get to your job. As an example of how city cats can work in the transport mix, it’s the best example in the state. And if you don’t want crazy ferry hair, you could always sit inside and look at your phone. There seems like so many ways to ferry that you can get to work in any state that you want. Besides, crazy, sea-swept hair is the new black.

New ferry service is coming to the Gold Coast

There’s many local ferry operators that could be in the running to provide the new service

Boat Shoes Not Required

Mayor Tate said, “A ferry trial will provide an integrated journey from heavy rail onto light rail and hopefully then onto a ferry. It will give us valuable data regarding passenger expectations, routes, operating times, appropriate fees, patronage and wave energy associated with the trial vessels. I welcome any initiative that helps bust road congestion. The more transport options for Gold Coasters and visitors, the better. Ideally, we want to be up and running late this year.’’

Estimates predict the service will transport between 400-700 passengers daily. A minimum of three vessels must be available at peak times. Hours will be between 7am and 9pm seven days a week. We would all rather a 24 hour service, I mean someone has to take us home at 3am from the Casino.

Mayor Tate said the City would not subsidise the cost of the ferry trial. “The tender makes it clear that the operator will be carrying the costs of the trial. The State Government and Council will analyse data from the trial and we will support the service as part of the city’s transport mix. I’m quietly confident that the trial will evolve into a permanent operation,’’ he said.
