Be a Hero for a Day

The Gold Coast Superhero Weekend is an event held at Broadbeach. It is for all those who love the idea of protecting the city from villains and dark forces. The event runs from Friday the 12th April through to Sunday the 14th April. It is an explosion of costume-wearing and costume-watching. It is held in Broadbeach, and people come from all around to attend. Here are the main events.

Supanova Comic Con & Gaming Expo

The Supanova Comic Con & Gaming Expo is the only ticketed event of the weekend. It is held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. The rest of the Gold Coast Superhero Weekend activities are free.


The event is a celebration of fandom. This is where the worlds of film and television, fantasy, comic books, anime, sci-fi, cartoons, books, gaming and collectables come to life. As well as dressing up, there’s a lot of other things to see and do. Like… checking out fan clubs, musical performances, creative master classes, wrestling. There’s also tournaments, competitions and an expo full of shopping possibilities. There will also be celebrity Q&As with actors from a variety of shows. ie Teen Wolf, Supergirl, Riverdale, The 100, Deadpool. plus, Napoleon Dynamite, Lost in Space, Outlander, The Hobbit trilogy, Mad Max, Farscape. And, Ultimate Spider-Man, Batman: Gotham Knights, Vikings, and many others! You can buy tickets here.

Supanova Superhero Parade

Line the streets at 9:00am sharp on Sunday for the official Supanova Superhero Parade. It is here you can watch your favourite characters from comic books, film, television, video games. they will take over the roads of Broadbeach.


This year’s parade will be led by Australian legendary actors Steve Bisley and Hugh Keays-Byrne. They are celebrating the 40th anniversary of Mad Max alongside one of movie’s most loved cars, the Interceptor. Joining the party are the Melbourne Transformers, Ghostbusters, 501st Legion, Hot Wheels Race Cars, Jurassic Park, hundreds of cosplayers and many more surprises.


Here’s the good news – if you have a great costume you can join in the parade! And, if you have a movie quality vehicle that you wish to show off to the world, you can join in too! The parade will start from the corner of Queensland Avenue and Old Burleigh Road. It finishes on the corner of Surf Parade and Victoria Avenue. Head to Queensland Avenue and Surf Parade for the best spots to view the parade.

The Parade Afterparty is on Sunday the 14th of April, from 10:30am – 1:00pm in Victoria Park and Surf Parade. It’s a place to hang around to do meet and greets and take photos with your favourite superheroes. There will be performances by Spider-Man and the Melbourne Transformers. And, opportunities to take photographs with television’s most iconic cars.

Superhero Movies in the Mall

This is part of the Gold Coast Film Festival and will be hosted on the Broadbeach Mall Stage, Victoria Avenue. For the young and young at heart, an exciting selection of popular culture film screenings will take place across two evenings.

City Libraries superhero themed activities

City Libraries are partnering with Gold Coast Superhero Weekend for the second year. They will hold family-free events from Monday the 8th April to Sunday the 14th of April. Libraries will have activities for all ages including story times, badge making, crafts, and photoshoots.


Things to Know

There’s plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars, fast food outlets and supermarkets to suit all tastes and budgets at Broadbeach. There are no age restrictions on any event.


If you are coming from the North end of the Gold Coast, the G:link Light Rail will take you to the Broadbeach North station which is in front of the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on the Gold Coast Highway. It is walking distance to the Broadbeach CBD. Travelling from the Southern end of the Coast? You will need to catch the bus from the dry side of the highway and hop off at the Broadbeach South Tram Station Bus Interchange.

There are plenty of parking options in Broadbeach. Oasis Shopping Centre Car Park has its entrance via Charles Ave. The Oracle Boulevard Card Park has its entry via Elizabeth Avenue. The Phoenician Car Park entrance is via Main Place Laneway. There is street parking on Charles Avenue, Elizabeth Avenue and Old Burleigh Road. It is a mix of free and metered.

There are several public toilets located throughout the Broadbeach precinct. There are also public toilets located in The Oasis Shopping Centre, Niecon Plaza and in the Convention Centre.
